Free educational seminar for the community presented by MCC Associate Professor of Physics Dr. Aseem Talukar and Dr. George Steedly of Webster County. Discussion will include a review of the science behind, safe viewing and photographing of the eclipse, and Dr. Steedly's personal eclipse chasing experiences.

Mule and Draft Horse Days

Where: Dawson Springs City Park
Activities for all ages include: Pony Pull, Carnival Rides, Little Mr. & Miss Pageant, Pickin in the Park, Antique Tractor Pull, Car Show, Parade, Wagon and Riding show, and Dance with Barry Potter Band. Global 6K for Water

6 kilometers is the average distance people in the developing world walk for water that is often unsafe to drink. Every Global 6K for Water participant provides clean water to one child in need through their registration fee of $50.00, and will get to wear the name and photo of a clean water recipient on their race bib during the race. First Day Hike

Hikers will meet begin a 3.25 mile hike on the park’s Lake Trail. Wear proper clothing and bring your own water, snacks, and hiking stick. This hike is not recommended for children under the age of 5. Leashed dogs are welcome on the hike. Hiking sticks are available for purchase in the park’s gift shop. The hike is free and will last approximately two hours. To register for the hike contact the park naturalist at rebeccae.clark@ky.gov or 1-800-325-1711.

Trail of Tears Weekend

Did you know that one of the routes of the Cherokee Trail of Tears passed about 20 miles from Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park? During this unique weekend event participants will take part in a day trip bus tour along parts of the northern route of the Trail of Tears in Caldwell, Crittenden, and Livingston counties. The bus will take participants to Mantle Rock Nature Preserve, which is an important point on Trail of Tears National Historic Trail. Participants can also attend an introductory program on Friday night and a historical and musical program Saturday night by Laura Hunt Angel. Sign up early because space is limited to 50 participants! Registration: $45 per person, includes boxed lunch, transportation, evening programs, and tour guide.
