Evolved Imagery: Paintings by Carl Berges March 6 through May 28, 2015 The show is composed of paintings done from 2012 to January 2015. Mr. Berges currently works in two media, transparent watercolor and oils. He is a signature member of the Kentucky Watercolor Society and has membership in the Southern Watercolor Society. His works appear in academic and private collections throughout the United States and Italy. This group of paintings are all abstract works with both geometric and organic compositions. “My approach with abstract art is to begin with no direction and explore color, texture, and shapes and allow by subconscious to direct my application of pigment.”-Carl Berges

Pam's Dance Barn

Moonlight Canoe Trip

Where: Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park, 20781 Pennyrile Lodge Rd., Dawson Springs, KY 42408
We will use the almost full moon to guide us over the water to see what creatures are using the lake. Trips will last about two hours on the water. Bring water, bug spray, and flashlight. Fee: $20/canoe. Participants must be 10+ years. Must register 1 week before the canoe trip. Six canoes are available. Groups may schedule their own personal trip on other dates close to the full moon. 270-797-3421

First Day Hike

Where: Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park, 20781 Pennyrile Lodge Rd, Dawson Springs, KY 42408
Hikers will meet begin a 3.25 mile hike on the park’s Lake Trail. Wear proper clothing and bring your own water, snacks, and hiking stick. This hike is not recommended for children under the age of 5. Leashed dogs are welcome on the hike. Hiking sticks are available for purchase in the park’s gift shop. The hike is free and will last approximately two hours. We plan to continue with guided hikes on the first of every month in 2015. Create Your Future Women's Conference

Where: Ballard Convention Center, 605 East Arch St., Madisonville
Conference will begin at 11 am with a Business Leaders panel that will answer questions about their business or challenges of women in business. Lunch will be served at 11;45 followed by the keynote speaker,Laura Benson, Owner and President of Filly Flair. Laura is 28 years old and started this business 3 years ago. She is exceeding over 5 million in sales with two retail clothing stores and a large e-commerce business. She has recently expanded into a children's line of clothing. HCCHS Track & Field Coalfield Festival

""The Hopkins County Central track and field team will be hosting a 5K run and 2.5K walk on Saturday June 6th along with the Morton's Gap Coalfield Festival. Race day registration will begin at 8:30 AM near the Mortons Gap city park. Anyone interested in registering before the race may contact Stephen Wood by email (stephen.wood@hopkins.kyschools.us) or phone (270-871-1924). The fee to run is $20 and will include a T-Shirt while they last."

Spring Garden Tour

Spend the day visiting 8 various gardens in our community. The Pennyroyal Herb Club will sponsor its 16th annual garden tour (rain or shine) on Saturday, June 6. A plant sale and the $10 tickets will be available on tour day at the Ruby Laffoon Log Cabin Herb Garden on Union Street. Tickets will also be available at Exotic Florists & Metcalfe's Garden Center. Big Blue 5K Run & 1 1/2 Mile Fun Walk
