To create a more attractive and engaging appearance for the exterior of the Historical Society of Hopkins County building, while offering a historical account of Hopkins Co. through murals, the Committee members selected a variety of photos covering every geographical section of Hopkins County. Steve Lane, an artist from Owensboro KY, was commissioned to paint the murals. The project was sponsored by Hopkins County Tourist and Convention Commission.

The front two windows feature two notable figures in the county’s history. Revolutionary War General Samuel Hopkins, was the agent and attorney for Richard Henderson and Co. in 1797 and came to survey the town of Henderson. At that point, he began to play an important role in Kentucky’s government. The other mural on the front of the building is of James Madison. in 1807, a small village was named Madisonville after the then Secretary of State, James Madison. Madison then succeeded his close friend and political ally, Thomas Jefferson, as the nation’s 4th President.
