Holiday Happenings in Hopkins County

The most wonderful time of the year is finally here! We love celebrating the holidays in Hopkins County and have loads of festive events for the whole family happening around the county this month. Here are a few events we are extra excited about!

A Jam-Packed Day of Christmas Cheer

December 7 is going to be one for the books because Downtown Madisonville is decking the halls for the holidays. Head over at noon to enjoy the Winter Wonderland event. There will be Christmas music, free activities, free pictures with Santa, take-home crafts, food, shopping, vendors, a special movie twist, and more!

Stick around after Winter Wonderland for the Christmas Tree Lighting at the Historic Courthouse and watch our brand new tree sparkle and shine. The day wraps up (see what we did there) with the annual Madisonville Noon Kiwanis Christmas Parade at 5 pm, which has a sweet Christmas movie theme this year. We can’t wait to kick off the holiday season with this fun-filled, family-friendly day in Madisonville!

A Holly Jolly Christmas Party

We can’t let Madisonville have all the fun! Nortonville is having a ho-ho-holiday filled day, too, on December 8! The fun starts with the Nortonville Christmas Parade and continues at 4 pm at Nortonville Library and Museum’s Holly Jolly Christmas Party. The free party includes story time with Mrs. Claus, Christmas crafts, snacks, hot chocolate, a fun display of gingerbread houses (where you help choose the winners), and a holiday open house at the museum.

Tons of festive holiday fun will be had by all in Nortonville, so stop by to experience a holly, jolly good time!

 Return to Bethlehem

Remember the reason for the season as you step back in time to Bethlehem on the night of Christ’s birth. Experience the place, the sounds, the smells, and the anticipation of the town’s people as they go about selling their wares, tending their animals, and rearing their families. Even better? The event is totally free!

You have 3 chances to visit Bethlehem this year: December 14, December 15, and December 16. Groups of 20 or more should call (270) 821-3611 ahead of their visit to make arrangements.

Take a Hike!

It’s no secret that we’re suckers for admiring the trails around Hopkins County. We believe winter is one of the best times to get out and hike! Luckily, there are two amazing guided hikes happening this month! First, head to Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park for their First Saturday of the Month Hike on December 7. The hike will focus on rock formations, sunsets, and landscapes glistening with ice and snow. Leashed dogs are allowed on this hike.

The next hike is through Mahr Park Arboretum on December 21. Virginia Call will lead this Winter Solstice Hike! Observe the shortest day of the year with a short family nature hike, followed by a warm drink and some sort of indoor craft. Unfortunately, this hike is a humans-only event (no pups allowed).

Christmas at Munns

The Pennyroyal Herb Club is pleased to present Christmas at Munns on December 7! Join in the Christmas fun at the Holiday Open House and Craft Sale at the Historic Munns Schoolhouse. There will be holiday decorations, gifts from the garden, baked goods, and more!

These are just a sampling of the fun holiday events in Hopkins County! We can’t wait to see you at each of these and more in the coming weeks. If you know of any other holiday events, please give us a shout at (270) 821-4171 and we will get them added to our events calendar
