Glema Center Announces Spring 2019 Schedule

The Glema Mahr Center for the Arts has announced the lineup for their Spring 2019 season. This high-energy schedule is anchored by a phenomenal Center Stage Series, featuring Ronnie Milsap, Mayumana, and Postmodern Jukebox.

Singer and pianist, Ronnie Lee Milsap is an American country music legend. He became one of the most successful and versatile country crossover singers of the 70s and 80s, with hits: “It Was Almost Like a Song”, “Smoky Mountain Rain”, “(There’s) No Gettin’ Over Me”, “I Wouldn’t Have Missed It for the World”, “Any Day Now”, and “Stranger in My House.” Ronnie Milsap will take the stage on Friday, February 22.

Mayumana, a multicultural dance troupe founded in Tel Aviv, combines dance, percussion, and visual effects to tell dynamic stories that “wow” audiences. On Thursday, March 28, Mayumana brings their stage show, “Currents,” to the Glema Center. This performance is inspired by the historical Battle of Currents between Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla in their quest for finding energy sources. Glema Center Director Brad Downall says if you liked the Broadway show “Stomp,” you’ll love Mayumana.

Postmodern Jukebox brings their trademark vintage twist on modern pop hits to the Glema Center on Monday, May 6. This multi-talented collective reimagines contemporary pop, rock, and R&B hits in various styles from yesteryear, from swing to doo-wop, ragtime to Motown. Their sound, described as “pop music in a time machine,” is rendered by a rotating cast of musicians and singers in fashions that date back to a time of street corner harmonies and torch singers, blues belters, and golden-voiced crooners.

Enjoy a unique experience and sit on-stage with musicians for the Glema Mahr Chamber Music Series and the Hancock Bank and Trust Coffeehouse Series. Highlighting the Chamber Music Series are the Ariel String Quartet on February 4 and violinist Lara St. John on February 25. Enjoy coffee and desserts during the Coffeehouse Series performances from Frank Vignola’s Hot Jazz Guitar Trio on February 28 and folk band Zoe Speaks on March 22.

Don’t miss out on a fun adventure for the whole family when Erth’s Prehistoric Aquarium goes center stage at the Glema Center on April 23. This show is an immersive experience that invites you to jump in and explore the ocean depths where prehistoric marine reptiles lived eons ago—and maybe still live today!

The Glema Center schedule includes two community theatre performances this season, “Arsenic and Old Lace,” February 14-16, and “Oliver!”, July 12-13. Madisonville-North Hopkins High School students will present “Mary Poppins” on April 12. And on April 26, the MCC Singers will present their annual spring celebration, “Sing, Sing, Sing!”
